Sadly, the Kathmandu Surf Club does not exist. At least not yet…

This design was inspired by a simple question we had asked ourselves: what would we be surprised to find in a given place? Après-ski in Tijuana, a whisky distillery in Brunei, or of course, a surf club in the foothills of the Himalayas. We thought there might be something to explore in these wonderful incongruities.

Kathmandu’s official name is Kathmandu Metropolitan City and we knew any self-respecting surfers would include all of it in their club name. The other design elements reflect Nepal’s history as a vital trade route and crossroads of civilization. The pagoda in the background is a symbol of traditional architecture in Nepal, which has both Hindu and Buddhist influences, and the text on the shirt is the motto of the city 'Cultural City, Kathmandu Metropolitan City' and is in the Devanagari script.
